- Prior to his stint in Congress, Brad Sherman was employed at one of the nation’s big-four CPA firms and participated in audits of large businesses and governmental entities as a staff member as well as provided tax law counsel on multi-million-dollar transactions and advised entrepreneurs and small businesses on tax and investment issues.
- From 1991 to 1996, he served on the California State Board of Equalization and chaired the board from 1991 to 1995.
- In 1996, he was elected to the United States House of Representatives for the first time and went on to become a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. He has also served as the top Democrat on the Subcommittee on Asia as well as the chairman emeritus of the Subcommittee on International Terrorism, Non-Proliferation, and Trade.
- In the 2012 United States House of Representatives elections in California § District 30, Brad Sherman was endorsed by several noted figures such as , David Dreier, Elton Gallegly, Buck McKeon, John McCain, , and Joe Lieberman. In addition to that, he was also endorsed by then-lieutenant governor (and future governor) and former president . He subsequently won the election, defeating Democrat Howard Berman 60%–40%.
